The Mama I Needed

This is to you,

The strong mama. Yes, you!

You are strong, even if you think you are weak.

How do I know? Because you are a mother. You were tasked by The Most High to raise one of HIS children.

You showed up for your child when you didn’t want to show up for yourself.

From the moment you knew you would be a mother, your life no longer was yours, but you lived your life for them.

Mama, you’ve made some hard decisions for your child, your little baby, and you did that because YOU are strong.

You brought that child into the world. God knew what he was doing when he paired the two of us together. He knew you were perfect for me and I was perfect for you.

I don’t think you heard me. Maybe you need to read that again.

God knew what he was doing when he paired the two of us together. He knew you were perfect for me and that I was perfect for you.

God knew that only YOU would be able to pray and intercede for them with a burning passion that would be unmatched by anyone else on the planet.

God KNEW that YOU would be the one to kiss booboos and wipe away tears and replace those tears with laughter and smiles.

God knew that you, and only you, would be able to talk them through their first heartbreak and walk them through their mistakes.

God also knew that giving this child to you was the BEST way that he could convey the love that He feels for you.

The unconditional, never-ending, and unfailing love that you have for your child, God has that same love for you and more.

Yes, you are a mama, but you are also the daughter of The Most High King. You are His greatest treasure. He has Your name, yes, YOURS, written in the palm of His hand.

His love for you caused him to send his son to die, for you, because you are worth it.

Mama, you’ve made mistakes. We all have. But that doesn’t make you unworthy of His love or unworthy of celebration.

You may be the mother of a child that was born asleep or the mother of a child that you lost before they were old enough to make a peep. Those tears? God saw you weep. He has healed you so that you may be able to speak to others, that they may find healing too. And yes, you are still a mother.

Bonus mamas, spiritual mamas, and neighborhood mamas, you all count too. God is so pleased with you and what a blessing you are for pouring into others that otherwise may not have been poured into.

Hey Mama, this day is for you. This day, we say thank you.

Thank you for always loving me.

Thank you for always supporting me.

Most of all, thank you for praying for me.

Happy Mother’s Day, not just today, but every day.

I hope you enjoyed this poem and have the opportunity to share it with a mother figure in your life not just on Mother's Day, but any day.

Blessings,

~Nia Grace
